Every year in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday children and family members gather at civil rights exhibit at the high museum of Atlanta. This event teaches people about the civil rights movement and the events that took place during his leadership that began in 1955. A history teacher is present at the event to inform kids and adults about Martin Luther King and other civil rights leaders during his journey to end segregation so we can live in unity as equals. During the event at the exhibition also informs individuals on the history that Martin Luther King has in the city of Atlanta.

The exhibit at the high museum displays multiple photographs of transgressional moments of the civil rights movement such as the million-man march. Also displays the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr. The exhibit also displays multiple civil rights leaders and heroes such as congressmen John Luis and ambassador Andrew Young “these photographs are very significant because they capture the emotion of the people during these difficult times.” Said James Johnson who has been visiting the exhibit for the past 2 years. “These photographs take us back as African American people to the cruelty that we’ve faced and shown how we have overcome through love and unity.

This event at the high museum serves as a place of remembrance for Martin Luther King and everything he has done for justice. In many ways, the event is informative as it allows guest to reflect on 250 photographs that serve as documentation. From protest to freedom marches “what makes this exhibit so unique is that the images were taken by the artist who risked being arrested and injured to document these movements.” Said, Mr. Johnson.
